Fire Extinguisher Success Stories

Dorm Fire At Dartmouth College

Fire and ivy at Dartmouth's Bissell Hall;  it could have been worse...  The fire extinguisher could have been empty or missing.

Some Bissell residents reported that the fire was caused by an improperly disposed cigarette butt, but others have speculated that alcohol may have been involved in the incident or that the fire was a deliberate act.

Bus Driver Saved By Extinguishers.... and lots of brave drivers

Bus Fire

Take if from one who knows,  nothing like a few good Samaritans with fire extinguishers when you need them!

Fortunately, no children were on board, and if it wasn't for some good Samaritans who were nearby, the driver may have been killed. Police said the bus driver was burned because her arms and her legs were pinned by the wreckage.

Friendly Fire Doused By Extinguishers

A Pittsfield MA. Friendly's Ice Cream restaurant was saved from fire from both a range-hood system and portable extinguishers.

A fire that started in a kitchen area damaged Friendly's Restaurant at 835 Dalton Ave. yesterday, Deputy Fire Chief Robert Czerwinski said.

Owners fight blaze at their luxury hotel

Heroic story from Scottland:

The owners of a luxury hotel tackled a blaze after it was set alight yesterday evening while guests dined yards away.

The home of the brave

Car Fire

"Home of the brave!"  Does a headline get better than that? I don't think so. Neither does Chicago's Herald News in telling the story of a group of men who saved several teens from a car fire.

Resident Uses Extinguisher on Apartment Fire

Is shattering glass a good way for residents to find out their home is on fire?  We don't think so,  but that is how reporter Kristyl Clark of the Langley Times in British Columbia found out.

At around 8:30 p.m Wednesday evening.....I smelled the ghastly smell of smoke coming from outside my apartment complex at 208 Street and 56 Avenue.

I was just about to walk over to my window when I heard glass shattering in the hallway, outside my front door.

When It Absolutely, Positively Has To Put Out The Fire

FedEx

Delivering overnight packages is not enough excitement for one Fedex driver in NY,  this delivery man is a hero!

Two Staten Island cops - including a hero who plucked a baby from New York Harbor this year - were seriously injured when their cruiser crashed en route to a burglary yesterday, police said.

The two were headed to a reported burglary on Houseman Ave. when they lost control of the unmarked cruiser and struck a utility pole, pinning both cops inside the burning vehicle.

Making Hay on Truck Fires

You see... how it works is,  first you dump the hay,  then put out the truck fire. Good thing they didn't do this with the fuel truck fire at Orlando Airport

The driver told firefighters from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue he noticed the fire, pulled over and attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher.

When that didn't work, he dumped the load of hay in the road, then pulled the truck away. Using the extinguisher, he was then able to put out the remaining flames on the truck.
