Phily Schools safety questioned

Another school system having trouble meeting code:

As 178,000 public school students prepared to return to class in Philadelphia today, City Controller Alan Butkovitz raised questions about just how safe the schools are.

Butkovitz said impromptu inspections of 12 city schools by his office last month found serious structural problems, electrical hazards, and safety violations such as padlocked fire doors, among other problems.

Potomac State College, WV:

Officers served an arrest warrant for destruction of property at the Campus Police office, following an investigation of the discharge of a fire extinguisher at the laundry room in Davis Hall. The incident occurred on August 30. The subject was indentified as Joshua A. Lusk, 19, of Princeton, W.Va.

A fire in a third-floor storage closet Thursday morning forced the evacuation of the Mills E. Godwin Student Center at Norfolk State University, but it caused minor damage and no injuries, a school spokeswoman said.

Vandalism Round-Up For August 24th

Tyler Minnesota: 

Damages in the building come to a total of $3,000 to $4,000 dollars, Houck said, which would count as a felony charge. A window in the building was broken, causing rain damage, Houck said, and a fire extinguisher was set off. Roof vents were also knocked off of the greenhouse behind the school building.

Vandalism Round-Up for August 8th

It's got to be the red can or maybe it's shooting it off just to see what happens or it might be just that they are everywhere;  any way you look at it fire extinguishers and vandals are big this summer. 

Vallejo California

Cortez said it will take four workers a couple of days to "get the school back in business."

Vallejo City Unified School District spokeswoman Tish Busselle said the individual or individuals broke into 10 classrooms, breaking 13 windows, smashing five computer monitors, emptying fire extinguishers into the rooms and generally creating a mess.

Vandals and fire extinguishers go together like birthdays and cake; unfortunately vandals and society go togther like oil and water.

Daytona Beach:

Local law enforcement officials eventually zeroed in on Edwin Berlin, 16, and Tracy Thompson, 14, after city employees discovered Friday and Saturday morning that the 520 S. Clara Ave. facility had been broken into -- twice.
